Albanian Skullcap/Plis/Qeleshe w/Albanian Flag


This is an Albanian Skullcap called qeleshe (in the south) or plis (in the north) This version is wore by the Gheg Albanians, the Albanians who live in the north. It is a white brimless felt cap traditionally worn by Albanians at it has it’s roots deep in antiquety. It has spread throughout Albanian-inhabited territories, and is today part of the traditional costume of the Albanian people.

It is 5 1/2 inches high and 7 1/2 inches in diameter

The cloth is thought to originate from a similar cap worn by the Illyrians, the ancestor of the Albanian people.


The name qeleshe comes from the Albanian word for wool (lesh).while the name plis comes from the Proto-Albanian word *p(i)litja related to Old High German filizid., Latin pellis id., and Greek πῖλος pilos id., also known as pileus.
